Software Engineering Workshop

The CCP-WSI Software Engineering Workshop was held on Thursday 6 October 2016 at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Didcot. Registration was 9.30 - 10.00 and the workshop itself ran from 10.00 until 16.00. Lunch and refreshments were provided. The day consisted of an introduction to a variety of software engineering tools including demos and practicals:

We expect attendees to be confident in using the command line; for example attendees should be comfortable with navigation, copy/delete, setting environment variables and redirecting output. Attendees should bring their own laptop with access to a linux environment to take part in the practicals, wifi will be available and so remote login will be possible. Attendees should ensure the following software is installed prior to the workshop:

  • g++
  • cppcheck
  • gdb (and ddd optionally)
  • gprof
  • valgrind
  • kcachegrind

All of the above software is open source and readily available in the various linux repositories. For example if running Ubuntu the following command will install all the required software: sudo apt-get install g++ cppcheck gdb ddd binutils valgrind kcachegrind.
