Blind Test Workshop Series 2: Introductory Event

Date: Tuesday 29th August 2017
Location: Room 132, O'Rahilly Building, University College, Cork, Ireland

Description and Aim

The CCP-WSI Blind Test Workshops aim to assess numerical codes currently in use and identify the required level of model fidelity when analysing Wave-Structure-Interaction (WSI) problems. The CCP-WSI Blind Test Series 2 is held in conjunction with the European Wave and Tidal Energy Conference (EWTEC) and is aimed at the wave and tidal energy community but is open to any participants with an interest, and a suitable code, for simulating wave interactions with dynamic floating structures and mooring systems. This Introductory Event brings together the CCP-WSI project partners with numerical modellers from the wider WSI Community to introduce and provide a forum for discussion/refinement of the proposed CCP-WSI Blind Test Series 2 Test Cases. The ultimate goal of the CCP-WSI Blind Test Workshops is to gather the information required to develop an efficient Numerical Wave Tank (NWT) facility that automatically includes the required level of physical complexity only when necessary. This ‘monolithic system’ will couple WSI codes together allowing developers to include multiple scales and levels of functionality/physical complexity within a single numerical tool that is both accurate as well as computationally efficient.

Objectives

  • Introduce the CCP-WSI project and the CCP-WSI Blind Test Workshops to the wider WSI community
  • Discuss the proposed CCP-WSI Blind Test Series 2 Test Cases and reporting parameters
  • Refine the Test Cases to ensure applicability over the desired range of codes/physical complexity
  • Establish a group of participants covering the desired range of numerical codes
  • Confirm the project timeline and establish the submission/reporting process for the results
